We are currently looking for a  UX/UI Intern to join our team in the Toronto.

Duration: 4 months (September 2024 - December 2024)

As a UX/UI Intern, you will be responsible for crafting intuitive and visually appealing user experiences across various Products and Services of Urban Rail Signaling. Your primary focus will be on understanding user needs, behaviors, and motivations, and translating them into exceptional design solutions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, developers, and marketers to ensure seamless integration of human-centric design and functionality. Your role will encompass both user research and interface design, requiring a blend of analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio showcasing their expertise in user-centered design principles, interaction design, and prototyping. Additionally, staying updated on emerging design trends and technologies will be essential to deliver innovative and impactful solutions. Your mission will also include contributing to the definition and improvement of the process and tooling for UI/UX Design within the URS and collaborating globally with our other UI/UX experts within the Global Transportation System (GTS) Business.

Key Accountabilities

  • Clearly communicate customer requirements and craft experience solutions that delight our customers while also meeting business objectives & deadlines
  • Participate in user research activities to gather requirements; this includes interviews, ethnographic observation, workflow analyses, and contextual inquiry
  • Communicate customer requirements with empathy through storytelling, interactive prototypes, and detailed visual/functional design specifications
  • Work with Development & Product Management partners to negotiate project scope and ensure customer experience is one of the three core considerations in product planning (Viability, Desirability, and Feasibility)
  • Deliver design documentation for use by a wide range of audiences including Software Development, Test Development, Technical Publications, Client Deliverable Documents, Sales, and Marketing
  • Review feature implementation, test plans, and documentation to ensure accuracy of desired application results
  • Create and maintain low fidelity to high-fidelity wireframes and clickable prototypes within FIGMA
  • Lead efforts to work collaboratively across teams and orgs to ensure cohesive workflows
  • Maintain familiarity of our products and utilize Systems thinking ensure a cohesive ecosystem and compatibility with proposed feature sets
  • Define and Mature UI/UX Design Process and Practices throughout the business

Key Requirements

  • Strong portfolio showcasing your understanding of user centered design, visual design, interaction design and variety of user research techniques
  • Competent in creating low fidelity to high-fidelity wireframes and clickable prototypes within FIGMA
  • Deep understanding of the principles of UX and visual design, as well as standard design tools
  • Good understanding of user-centered design process including conducting user research, usability testing, rapid prototyping, heuristic analysis, and accessibility concerns
  • Ability to iterate designs and solutions efficiently and intelligently, with a keen eye for detail
  • A clear and effective communication style, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to lead discussions with customers, developers, and internal stakeholders to drive resolution on proposed features and functionality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of a bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript and web development frameworks
  • Experience in Human Factors, Human Factors Manager or Human Factors Design Authority
  • Experience with Safety Critical Solution (SCADA, Rail, Aviation, etc.)
  • Proficiency in other design tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar
