As a UI/UX Designer with Octo, you will join an Agile program responsible for the discovery, design, and development of new, mission-critical, high priority applications and processes from the ground up at the Transportation Security Administration. You will work with the client and stakeholders to understand business objectives and perform qualitative and quantitative research to acquire user insights, such as conducting user and stakeholder interviews, journey mapping, facilitating workshops, and usability studies. You may also conduct expert reviews on designs, participate in design ideation sessions, support prototype development, and help ensure that designs are Section 508 compliant. You are strong communicator, self-directed, inquisitive, enthusiastic, empathic, and relentless in the pursuit of continuous improvement.

Program Mission…                                                    

You will be working on a high-profile program supporting mission-critical application development for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).  Your team on the program will have a direct say with your participation in the design and implementation to a mission-critical applications starting at the design phase to include the development, implementation, and maintenance of a technology roadmap.

Requirements…

  • Experience working with stakeholders and customers to understand business processes, how applications are used, and common pain points through stakeholder interviews, contextual inquiries and workshops/collaborative sessions
  • Ability to act as an ambassador for the users, communicating their needs to stakeholders, and promoting the value of UX research early and often, to deliver a well-designed application and intuitive user experience
  • Experience creating and conducting research activities with internal and external users, synthesizing results into user personas, journey maps, and other deliverables that teams can act on
  • Curiosity and the ability to extract high-quality insights from our customers
  • Ability to plan and lead design ideation sessions and assist with UI and process design
  • Experience creating and conducting research plans in an agile environment that answers key research questions
  • Understand and ensure usability standards and best practices and educate and promote that knowledge to stakeholders, customers, and developers
  • Strong self-organization and self-management skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to think outside the box about problems and propose creative solutions
  • Experience working in a government or regulated industry Agile environment
  • Experience introducing and implementing HCD best practices

Desired Skills…

  • Section 508 compliance design preferred

Years of Experience: 1+ years of experience preferred

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Location: Remote

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust is required. Active TSA clearance strongly preferred.
